Emo's Memos
News from Keith
Hi Everyone,
I'm most deeply honoured to be invited to Beijing, China for
the amalgamation of my Piano Concerto along with The Yellow
River Concerto composed by Yin Chengzong, Chu Wanhua, Sheng
Lihong and Liu Zhuang. The orchestra will be The China
National Symphony Orchestra.
Keith- aka Emo
Details:
An artistic culmination between East and West:
An amalgamation between the Yellow River and Keith Emerson's
Piano Concertos to be performed by the China National
Symphony Orchestra in Beijing on March 2, 2007. Keith
Emerson will also enter the stage.
Background:
At the heights of
Chinas Cultural Revolution in 1969, the China National
Symphony Orchestra had the first performance of Chinas epic
symphonic work the Yellow River Piano Concerto. As a
symbol of strength and power, the concerto with both its
melodic and dramatic themes was used to energize a nation.
For years, it was the only symphonic piece allowed to be
performed in China and still today, it is regarded as her
most beloved and frequently played symphonic work.
Some few years
later, in 1977, Keith Emerson composed his famous Piano
Concerto No. 1 illustrating the Cycle of Nature from its joy
and destruction to its triumph. Now, more than a generation
later in a much different international area of openness
between East and West, these compositions frequently
regarded as two of the greatest piano concertos from the 2nd
half of the 20th Century are amalgamated together
in an effort to stimulate the Chinese peoples awareness and
focus on its critical environmental protection challenges.
On March 2, 2007,
the China National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of
maestro Terje Mikkelsen, will perform A Green Call
- the amalgamation between the two concertos in Beijings
Poly Theater. Soloists will be Chinas most talented female
pianist Chen Sa and the American Pianist Timothy Smith. The
concerto is synchronized with an environmental protection
film in three movements, which will be shown simultaneously.
The performance will be filmed by Chinas Central Television
(CCTV) and edited for nationwide television broadcasting.
The concert will be performed again on March 27 in Beijings
Qiantiao Theater.
At the March 2,
2007 performance, Keith Emerson will also enter the stage
with the China National Symphony Orchestra where the Chinese
and International audience may experience a real Malambo.
More information about the concert will follow.

"Thanks to all of you that sent Birthday
Greetings. I was very touched by your warm messages. It may
surprise some but I chose to stay in on my Californian
Birthday, ordering a Chinese meal and watching television.
Next week I'm off to Europe. I'm looking forward to seeing
my family there and, after the success of Japan, my band and I
are very much looking forward to the European concerts.

Dear Friends,
Although the initial news leak had me at death's door, I'm
happy to report that I have not had a heart attack. A
routine EBT scan gave cause for further investigation and I
was advised by my cardiologists to pursue such before
committing to a tour. I am currently in England for this
purpose and will have a myocardial perfusion stress test on
Wednesday. The result of this and other tests will determine
whether further tests are necessary. I hope to keep you
notified on the outcome.
Meanwhile I would like to sincerely thank all those who sent
messages wishing me well and hope, all being well, to be "on
the road" soon.
Emo.

Not to be
confused with TV's "Antique Road Show", I'm pleased to
announce Sanctuary Records' release of my latest album "Hammer It Out
- The Anthology". It's a 2 CD, 30 track collection of both solo and group
material covering The Nice and E.L.P. Although the track listing says there
are 3 previously unreleased tracks there are in fact 4 (An added bonus for
the connoisseur collector).
It will only be available in stores of certain territories
but autographed copies will be available, worldwide, from my online store at
$35 once the CD has been released.

Tsunami Appeal.
I had the pleasure of visiting my old local pub, the
Six Bells in Chiddingly, Sussex, England for a
spontaneous just cause to be joined by Dave Kilminster
and Phil Williams. Pete Riley couldn't make it as he was
on his way to the NAMM show in California but I had a
great jam with all... including the resident jazzers.
Apart from all the fun, we made almost 1,000 for the
appeal.

I originally thought Tom of Noddy's Puncture had taken this
photo that sets the ambience and mood of the event.
However, I have since learned that David Bentley took
the photo.
Oops, sorry
David!, I guess I was caught up in the excitement of the
moment. Corrections have been made and a tyre repair kit
sent to Noddy's Puncture.

Kitamura, it celebrates 50 years of Godzilla Films.

Scorpions -
Tesla -
Keith Emerson Band
ON TOUR |

Graphic: Marc Eisenoff |

| |
I am very
pleased to announce that I have been invited by the
Scorpions to tour with them and Tesla in October, November
and December throughout North America (See
Date Sheet). I will be playing with my band, Dave
Kilminster (Gtr), Phil Williams (Bass) and Pete Riley
(Drums).
I have seen
The Scorpions in action several times, notably their concert
with orchestra at the Greek Theatre in 2000. Apart from
being an exciting creative band, as individuals they are
also a very great bunch of guys even though their last bass
player tried to pull my last girlfriend. Together with Tesla
it should be an interesting tour.
ROCK ON.

Keith passes along the following article about the Moog
synthesizer and the recent MoogFest.
This article on Wired.com - Is a Moog Renaissance Nigh?
- was featured in a recent newsletter from the
Carlini Group
(who organized and promoted the MoogFest). Here's a teaser
from the article:
' The
band onstage was rocking pretty hard. But the spinning
spotlight stayed focused on the rickety, vintage machine
just to the musicians' left.
The
bathtub-size tangle of wires and knobs and Star Trek-era
flashing lights was an original Moog synthesizer. And it
deserved the attention. Forty years ago, upstate New York
engineer and physicist Bob Moog started making instruments
like these -- the world's first commercially available,
playable synths. Within a decade, they had radically
refigured the sound and texture of music, become a fixture
of rock and jazz fusion, and formed the foundation of a
dozen different genres known collectively as "electronic." '

I'm pleased to announce that my autobiography,
Pictures of
an Exhibitionist is into its second edition. As
with most first editions there were corrections to be made
and these have been done. I hope to have signed copies by
Christmas while an American publisher is being sought.
I also hope to
be compiling DVDs of both The Nice and
ELP very soon, containing archive material shot with
a Super 8 film camera...(way before video cameras came
along.)
